MCO 165 — Medical Ethics and Law

This course will provide students with an overview of laws, ethics, liabilities, and their relationships as they relate to the medical profession. Covered topics will include ethical and legal responsibilities, licensure requirements, physician and patient rights, negligence, medical records confidentiality, and revocation of licensure. Addressing the complex financial systems associated with today's healthcare environment, this course provides an understanding of the basics of health insurance, managed healthcare, revenue cycle management, medical coding, reimbursement, Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) and workers' compensation.
