The BC in Phlebotomy leads to certification through the National Phlebotomy Association (NPA), the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), and the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT). The phlebotomist is an entry level health care worker who serves as the direct link between the patient and the laboratory. The position is responsible for drawing both venous and arterial blood specimens from patients and sending blood to the laboratory. In some cases, physician approval is required.
