AFST 4110V — Race, Culture, and Education
This course examines education through the lens of Africana Studies, highlighting African diasporic knowledge traditions, cultural practices, and social justice movements. Students explore how race, power, and culture shape educational systems, with a focus on how Black communities have challenged and reimagined the schooling system. Drawing on Africana Studies, the course engages pedagogical approaches informed by Africana systems of thought/ways of knowing to affirm identity, develop critical consciousness, and promote liberatory educational practices.
