PHLB-PHLEBOTOMY
A special course covering the basic concepts and skills involved in phlebotomy and laboratory procedures. The first half of the course includes didactic instruction (60 hours) of basic anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, medical legal and ethical issues, patient care, best practices, and quality assurance. The Laboratory (10 hours) addresses collection and handling of blood and non-blood specimens, patient communication skills, and ethical considerations. Prepare students for clinical skills rotations. Course standards are based on the Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute, Needlestick Prevention Act, Joint Commission, 2008 National Safety Goals, OSHA, and CDC. The second half of
