(Sp) Advanced undergraduate/early graduate level course in fiber-optic communication systems and networks. Topics include: Optical fibers and transmission effects, optical transmitters, modulators, optical receivers, optical amplifiers, and intensity-modulation/direct-detection systems. Graduate students will also study coherent optical communications systems, digital signal processing for optical communications, and optical networking
