ENGL 126 — Introduction to Journalism

This course will introduce a framework for practicing journalism in the twenty-first century. Students will discuss the role and responsibility of the press in a free society; they will read and evaluate various newspapers' style and content; and students will practice journalistic writing and editing, using the professional standards of gathering information for news, features, and opinion pieces. Thus, students will read and watch the news nightly and write daily, implementing the writing process, from research, interviewing, and note taking through editing, proofreading, and potential publication. Students enrolled in this course should expect to participate inside and outside of the class.

Prerequisites: ENGL 121
