THET 292 — Theatre History II
A study of the evolution of global theatre from the 18th century to contemporary theatre including Realism, Expressionism, Kabuki, Chinese Opera, Epic Theatre, and Theatre of the Absurd, continuing on to the highly diversified theatre movements of the post-World War II era, with special attention to issues of diversity, access, the international avant-garde and the impact of technological changes. Emphasis will be on the play in performance as it reflects the changing physical theatre as well as the social, political, and intellectual currents of the period.
