This course will explore the diversity of women’s experiences within the larger context of United States history from the colonial era to the present. Students will learn about the changing status of women over time, in addition to examining the role of women and gender in the political, economic, social, and cultural life of the nation. Special emphasis will be given to the myriad of factors that shape American women’s identities, including race, ethnicity, class, religion, and cultural heritage. Prerequisite ENG 1510. J, spring; C occasionally.
