NUR1510 — Foundations of Nursing

Students will be introduced to the National League for Nursing (NLN) Associate Degree (AD) Competencies (professional behaviors, communication, assessment, clinical decision making, caring interventions, teaching and learning, collaborating, and managing care), the three roles of the AD nurse (provider of care, manager or care and member within the discipline), and Quality and Safety Education for nurses (QSEN) competencies. Students will provide safe, holistic, patient-centered care to adult and geriatric individuals with diverse cultures experiencing basic disruptions in biophysical and psychosocial dimensions in a variety of healthcare settings. Students will learn the preparation and administration of non-parenteral medications. Select ethical-legal principles are introduced. Eligibility: Acceptance into NUR program, MAT 1500 or higher; Prerequisites/corequisite: ENG 1510 without supports, BIO 2510. J fall; C fall.
