1.2 credits · 1.2 hours

Social welfare policies and issues impact those who are most vulnerable and in need of Federal, State and municipal assistance. Benefit programs such as, housing assistance, Medicaid, as well as many other federally funded programs are utilized daily and navigating these programs can prove to be stressful impacting the overall health of many consumers. Professionals who work with vulnerable populations need to be aware of and educated on the status of social welfare programs, as well as, the guiding policies in order to (1) understand how policy implications can effect a person's overall quality of life and (2) to advocate on behalf of the individuals served in health and human service professions.
