The Enjoyment of Music I This course is a survey of art music of the Western world from the Middle Ages through the Twenty-first Century. By examining music from major style periods, students learn to recognize standard Western instruments and elements of music, including melody, harmony, rhythm, texture, and form. Students develop listening skills through in-class activities and online music listening assignments. Students develop an understanding of the defining characteristics of the major style periods by examining great musical works and studying major composers from each era and by exploring the relationship between music and other art forms.
