ENGL 257 — Generative AI and The Future of Writing * (3 Hours)
This course will deal with the development and rapid adoption of generative AI-based writing technologies. The course will have four objectives. First, students will master, through hands-on assignments, appropriate use of generative AI-writing technologies in the academic world. Second, students will experiment with using generative AI to produce workplace writing. Third, students will place generative AI-assisted writing within the history of both writing and computing. Fourth, students will wrestle with cutting-edge ethical, legal, philosophical, and political questions raised by generative AI.
